GROUP LESSONS

Group lessons meet weekly for one hour. Students spend the entire time with their teacher and the other students; the technology lab is not used in group lessons. A qualified instrument teacher leads a group of six students (or less) in structured activities, while also ensuring that every student gets the individual assistance and attention she or he needs.

Group lessons are best suited to students who are just beginning their studies in a particular instrument, because the teacher moves at a pre-determined pace designed to work for most students. All beginners need to learn the basics - note values, time signatures, finger positions, etc. - so group lessons work well to master these concepts. However, as students begin to learn at different speeds, their need for individual attention also increases and private lessons become more appropriate.

Since personalization opportunities are limited, this option isn't right for everyone, but it is an appropriate and economical option for many beginners.
